Gunman who shot U.S. politician Steve Scalise acted alone, says Federal Bureau of Investigation

TOM GJELTEN, BYLINE: The FBI and other agencies have spent the last week trying to figure out why James Tom Hodgkinson opened fire on Republican congressmen.

An FBI statement Wednesday said items found on Hodgkinson, who had been living in his vehicle in Alexandria at the time, included a piece of paper that contained the names of six members of Congress. Officials did not disclose the names. He said Hodgkinson had never posted direct threats against members of Congress or the Congressional baseball game, but said that a witness told investigators Hodgkinson stayed at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park after being told it was the Republican team practicing.

Authorities haven't determined Hodgkinson's motive for the attack at the practice for an annual charity baseball game, Slater said.

Scalise was seriously wounded in the shooting and has undergone several surgeries and remains hospitalized, local media reported.

There are 1 comment on the The Washington Post story from 9 hrs ago, titled Rep. Steve Scalise now in fair condition after baseball field shooting, hospital says. He fired more than 60 shots, Slater said.

Boeing launches new jet with flurry of orders
Last month, Ryanair said it got a 6 percent increase in full year net profit to 1.32 billion euros (1.47 billion USA dollars). CALC ordered another 35 different MAX models in addition to its MAX 10 order and Okay Airways another seven MAX 8s.

Hodgkinson was "known to have an anger management problem", Slater said, describing the gunman as a desperate man "struggling in all kinds of different ways". When they searched the unit, investigators found components for the SKS rifle, a receipt for the November 2016 gun purchase, and more than 200 rounds of ammunition. All five people who were shot, including two U.S. Capitol police officers, survived their injuries. The VA is the second-largest department in the USA government, with more than 350,000 employees, and it is charged with providing health care and other services to military veterans. He also visited the office of independent Sen. Slater said it did not appear to be a "hit list", though Hodgkinson had done "cursory" searches of at least two of the politicians on his list.

Former neighbors and family members, meanwhile, said their encounters with Hodgkinson were marked by displays of simmering anger and unusual behavior.

He had more than 200 rounds of ammunition in an Alexandria storage unit that he visited more than 43 times between April and June, sometimes twice a day, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Officials said they also searched the van he had been living out of in the parking lot of the YMCA and found indications on his computer that he meant to go home.

US Capitol Police and other officers returned fire and killed the gunman, who turned out to be an unemployed home inspector with a deep animosity towards President Donald Trump and other Republicans.
