Iran's president condemns 'siege' of Qatar by Arab nations

"Iran's policy is to develop more and more its relations with Doha", Rouhani said in a phone conversation with the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, according to the presidency website.

Highlighting that friendly and brotherly ties between Iranian and Qatari nations can benefit people of the region, Dr. Rouhani said "we look forward to having continuous cooperation with the Qatari government and strongly believe that numerous capacities for further bolstering ties between the two countries need to be properly exploited".

"Pressure, intimidation and sanction can not be suitable solutions to possible disagreements among regional countries", he underlined.

"This is while during the first three years of the current administration, 45 of the privatized assets went to private entities, resulting in a 2.5 times increase".

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the UAE severed ties with Qatar on June 5, officially accusing Doha of supporting "terrorism" and destabilizing the region. As long as the Gulf stalemate continues, Tehran has promised to provide air, sea and land support to its "brother" country.

Iran has called the Saudi-led economic siege of Qatar unacceptable and has called for dialogue to solve the diplomatic crisis.

They have also closed their airspace to Qatari carriers and blocked the emirate's only land border - vital for its food imports.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Sunday that it is inappropriate of some Arab countries to demand Qatar to shutdown Turkey's military base in the country, responding to the latest list of demands issued by the states boycotting the Gulf emirate.

Saudi Arabia and its allies, including Egypt, have issued 13 demands that they want Qatar to meet in return for an end to the almost three-week-old diplomatic and trade "blockade".
