Schumer gives health care passage '50-50 chance'

The Capitol is seen in overcast skies as the 115th Congress convenes in Washington Tuesday Jan. 3 2017. With the GOP now in control of the White House the Senate and the House Republicans are expected to begin dismantling eight years of President Ba

It was the latest signs of high-stakes maneuvering over a key campaign promise, and the president signaled a willingness to deal.

President Donald Trump seemed to confirm reports that he called the House of Representatives' healthcare bill "mean" during a "Fox & Friends" interview that aired Sunday morning.

"Senator Durbin doesn't want to talk about the fact that in IL they are way down on the number of people even selling insurance and prices are way up", he also said.

Walker said he's spoken with McConnell and other Senate leaders and called on them to change the bill before holding a vote. He can afford to lose the support of only two Republicans in the face of unanimous Democratic opposition.

Trump bemoaned the lack of bipartisanship in Washington, having belittled prominent Democrats himself.

"We are trying to get Medicaid back to its original moorings", she said. "And I'm open arms; but, I don't see that happening". But the level of hostility as an example of the health care bill you are reporting on and everyone is reporting on.

Instead, Trump attacked current lawmakers like Sens.

"She's a hopeless case".

Warren, a leading liberal and defender of the Affordable Care Act, has opposed efforts to pass a bill to replace the law.

Though Johnson took a more agnostic approach to his criticism of his own party's bill, Sanders, who caucuses with the Democrats, was far more acerbic in his condemnation of the AHCA.

"Until I'm certain this is in the best interest for folks in Wisconsin, I'm not voting yes", Johnson tweeted.

Donald Trump Wishes Muslims 'Warm Greetings' For Eid al-Fitr
Donald Trump has broken a Presidential tradition lasting two centuries by not hosting an event to mark Islam's holy month of Ramadan .

"I don't have the feedback from constituencies who will not have had enough time to review the Senate bill", he said.

"And honestly, nobody can be totally happy". He is seeking to push a final package through the Senate before the July 4 recess.

"At the end of the day, this bill is not going to fix healthcare", Davis said.

"I think they have, at best, a 50-50 chance of passing this bill", Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY said on ABC.

"I would like to delay", said US Senator Ron Johnson, one of the five senators opposing the bill.

Cornyn made the comments Sunday at a private gathering hosted by the libertarian Koch brothers in Colorado. Moderates are concerned that the bill places caps on federal Medicaid funding, impacting millions of low-income Americans who rely on the Medicaid programs administered by their states. Better Care would also limit government spending on the rest of the Medicaid program, giving states a set amount to spend per person rather than the insurance program's now open-ended funding commitment.

The GOP legislation would phase out the Medicaid expansion, dramatically curb Medicaid spending and repeal ObamaCare taxes and its mandate to buy insurance.

Trump told Fox that health care is "a very complicated subject", and any changes will draw opposition from one group or another. On Sunday, he revealed on This Week that his stance wasn't completely hardline: "I'm for 100% repeal.but if you offer me 90% repeal, I'd probably vote for it".

Democrats seized the opportunity and began creating plans to use the remark to show that even Trump believes the bill is heartless.

Trump said he does not think Republicans voicing objections to the party's proposal are "that far off" from supporting it. "Famous last words, right?"
