Senate GOP health care bill vote: The whip count

Republicans actually need 51 votes to pass the legislation, but one of them can be Vice President Mike Pence's tie-breaking vote.

He also signalled that last-minute changes were coming to win enough support for passage.

Speaking to "Fox & Friends", Trump claimed that former President Barack Obama only called the draft bill "mean" because he did it first.

President Trump on Sunday confirmed recent reports that he denounced the House health care bill as "mean" - and he wanted to make sure he got credit for it.

"I have very serious concerns about the bill", she said on ABC's "This Week" program.

Sen. Susan Collins of ME said it would be "very difficult" for President Trump and GOP leaders to get her support this week for the Senate's health care bill.

Senate Republican leaders scrambled Sunday to rally support for their health care bill as opposition continued to build inside and outside Congress and as several Republican senators questioned whether the bill would be approved this week.

At least five Republican senators have publically opposed the bill. But she said it will be "extremely difficult" for the White House to be able to find a narrow path to attract both conservatives and moderates.

Progressive groups predicted IL will see hundreds of thousands people lose health insurance coverage if Congress approves the Senate Republican plan to replace Obamacare. He said he feels "a sense of urgency" to push forward because the health care system is in "full meltdown mode".

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said seven to eight other senators including herself were troubled by provisions that she believes could cut Medicaid even more than the House version. Trump has yet to explicitly say whether he will support the legislation as it is now written.

No country questioned India's surgical strike: PM Narendra Modi
Monday's meeting is meant to break through the malaise and get the U.S. -India relationship back on an upward trajectory. Modi , who is now in the United States on a two-day tour, will meet President Donald Trump for the first time on Monday.

He told reporters at a private gathering hosted by the libertarian Koch brothers in Colorado that Trump will be "important" in securing the final votes.

Johnson's remarks came in a nationally televised interview on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Then he criticizes two prominent Democratic senators.

"If we get to impasse, if we go to a bill that is more repeal and less big government programs, yes, I'll consider partial repeal", he said.

Conservative Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said he is opposing the Senate bill because it "is not anywhere close to repeal" of the Affordable Care Act.

The 142-page measure, released Thursday, would end Obamacare's penalties for people who don't buy insurance, cut back an expansion of Medicaid, but would keep protections for people with pre-existing conditions, compared to the House-passed bill.

"I think they have, at best, a 50-50 chance of passing this bill", Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY said on ABC. "We should not be voting on this next week". He recalled the tangled legislative process under Obamacare, pointing to the "Cornhusker kickback" as proof that it took a lot of work for Democrats to get enough votes to pass the Affordable Care Act.

The Congressional Budget Office has yet to score the Senate plan, but has found the House measure known as the American Health Care Act would leave 23 million more people without health insurance over the next decade.

Trump says the Democrats' "theme is resist" and that "if it was the greatest bill ever proposed in mankind, we wouldn't get a vote" from them. "I think we're going to get there", he said.
