Store is a Scottsdale, Arizona-based real estate investment trust whose portfolio includes more than 1,750 properties in 48 US states.

Berkshire Hathaway and its subsidiaries engage in diverse business activities including property and casualty insurance and reinsurance, utilities and energy, freight rail transportation, finance, manufacturing, retailing and services.

"Berkshire Hathaway's investment solidly positions Store for continued growth", Christopher Volk, the chief executive officer of the REIT, said in the statement. They were prepared to take advantage of an attractive buying opportunity in the market and they did so.

Berkshire bought 18.6 million shares of Store Capital for $20.25 per share in a private placement sale. The investment makes it Store's third-largest investor, after Vanguard Group and Fidelity. The company boasts more than 1,750 properties across 48 states and some of its biggest customers include AMC Entertainment, Applebee's and Ashley Furniture, CNBC added. Store Capital focuses on transactions for single-tenant commercial properties, with occupants such as restaurants and supermarkets. Evercore ISI restated an underweight rating on shares of Berkshire Hathaway in a research report on Monday, February 27th.

Store Capital shares rose more than 10 percent midday Monday after the news.
