Trump confirms he called the Republicans' healthcare bill 'mean'

Ohioans are reacting to the long-awaited Republican Affordable Care Act repeal bill released Thursday.

Schumer said Democrats have made clear they would be willing to work with Republicans to pass a Senate bill if they agree to drop a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and instead work to improve it.

Trump later criticized the House bill privately as "mean" and this week called for a health plan "with heart".

The Senate bill would also erase the tax penalties Obama's 2010 law imposes on people who don't purchase insurance.

Heller said that to win his vote, GOP leaders would have to "protect Medicaid expansion states" from the bill's current cuts. Where are we going to go when they close that? Time is of the essence!

People are voicing opposition to the proposed Senate Republican health care bill.

Critics have pointed to how the BCRA would affect the health and security of millions of Americans, particularly poor Americans who rely on Medicaid for their health coverage.

"Democrats in Congress created this calamity and now, if we don't act, millions more Americans will be hurt by Obamacare's deepening death spiral", President Trump said. Since it's likely Democrats will unanimously vote against the bill, Republicans can afford to lose two votes before the bill is jeopardized. We don't have too much of a choice because the alternative is the dead carcass of Obamacare.I don't think they're that far off.

Five senators have already announced their opposition to the Senate bill.

The holdouts are expressing willingness to negotiate, but many of them are pushing revisions that could risk alienating moderate Republicans in the process.

If the Senate approves its repeal version, either the House would have to pass the same bill or reconcile its version with the Senate's before Trump could sign it into law.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky. walks on to the Senate floor on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, June 22, 2017, following a meeting with Senate Republicans on a health reform bill.

Those senators are Ted Cruz of Texas; Ron Johnson of Wisconsin; Rand Paul of Kentucky; and Mike Lee of Utah.

"No argument against Trumpcare is more eloquent than the grave consequences it means in people's lives", she wrote colleagues.

Whether these protests are enough to kill the bill, or are anything more than political theater, remains to be seen. But he said "it's going to be very hard to get me to a "yes" on the bill.

But several others senators are on the fence, including Sens.

"Any federal legislator who votes for this bill and says, oh I didn't cut Medicaid, I just sent it back to the states-that whole deliberately misleading", he added. Overall, he says society could go backwards.

Much like its counterpart that passed the U.S. House last month, the bill would cut funding for Medicaid, slash taxes on the wealthy, loosen coverage requirements for insurers and remake federal tax credits for people to buy insurance on the individual marketplace.
