Trump endorses Senate GOP health care plan

The four are sticking together to get changes such as fewer government subsidies created to make health insurance more affordable.

"Page by page, this Republican plan forces Americans to pay more for less, less comprehensive health care coverage", said Sen. McConnell has said multiple times that he will press for a vote before the Senate leaves town for the Fourth of July recess, and it looks as though he has a lot of bargaining to do in the meantime.

A handful of Republicans - more than Mr. McConnell can afford to lose - were quick to disparage the measure. It did not sound like a lengthier phase-out of the Medicaid expansion would satisfy Heller the way it might satisfy, say, Ohio Sen. Even Donald Trump called the House bill "mean", despite celebrating its passage last month.

Heller, a Republican who is up for re-election in 2018, is the Democrats' top target in the upcoming cycle. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Thursday, effectively phasing out Medicaid entirely.

The federal government's share of funding for Medicaid, which is jointly run with individual states, would fall over the course of seven years to end up at around 57 percent of the cost of that program, which offers health coverage to the poor. It would also slap annual spending caps on the overall Medicaid program, which since its inception in 1965 has provided states with unlimited money to cover eligible costs.

The Senate bill maintains much of the structure of the House's but differs in key ways.

Toomey told the publication that he is "likely" to vote for the legislation. We have four very good people that - it's not that they're opposed, they'd like to get certain changes.

Utah evacuees watched flames draw closer, smoke get thicker
With the hot, dry conditions persisting, forest officials imposed fire restrictions in hopes of limiting human-caused fires. It has since burned onto lands managed by Dixie National Forest and Color Country District Bureau of Land Management.

Heller, like four other GOP senators who announced their opposition to the Obamacare repeal bill that was unveiled Thursday, left the door open to negotiations.

Republican leaders in the House faced the same challenges in March that their Senate counterparts are now confronting.

One of those senators, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, called on Sunday for a slowdown in the process to give the Senate and the public time to evaluate the healthcare bill.

While Republicans control both chambers of Congress and the White House, the party's efforts to unwind Obamacare have been dogged by internal conflicts between moderate and hard-line members of the party.

To satisfy conservatives like Toomey who wanted faster cuts, those already enrolled in the program would also be subject to the cuts beginning in 2021.
