Trump optimistic on health care; some doubtful

Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins of ME said on Sunday that she has extreme reservations about the Senate health-care bill.

"I want to see a bill with heart", he said, confirming a switch from his laudatory statements about the House bill at a Rose Garden ceremony with House GOP leaders last month.

During a brief conversation with reporters in an Outback Steakhouse off Interstate 70, on the road from Pennsylvania to OH late Saturday night, he quietly cycled back through the argument and, not quite throwing his arms up, said again of the numbers, "It's true!"

Aides to the organization said they were "disappointed" the bill did not do enough to repeal the 2010 law, NBC reported. The group also said it will lobby for changes to it. And it would keep more of Obamacare's insurance regulations than the House legislation. Ted Cruz of Texas circulated a wish list to Republican colleagues on how he can get to "yes", such as allowing insurers to offer plans that don't comply with Obamacare's insurance rules as long as they provide other ones that do.

Schumer said Democrats have made clear they would be willing to work with Republicans to pass a Senate bill if they agree to drop a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and instead work to improve it. The Affordable Care Act bans lifetime limits and requires insurers to cover various so-called "essential health benefits" which states could waive under the Senate plan.

Another Republican holdout, Sen. "I don't have the feedback from constituencies who will not have had enough time to review the Senate bill", Johnson said. "These bills aren't going to fix the problem". Susan Collins, R-Maine, have also expressed concern.

"It makes absolutely no sense to eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood", Ms. Collins told ABC News, noting that federal funds can not be used directly for abortion anyway.

Trump confirms he called health care bill 'mean'
"Well he used my term, mean ", Trump said during an interview with Fox and Friends on Sunday. "I think they'll get some points". Famous last words, right? "We don't have too much of a choice, because the alternative is the dead carcass of Obamacare ".

The House of Representatives has passed a measure similar to the Senate plan.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer says Senate passage of the Republican bill to replace former President Barack Obama's health law is too close to call. "It's not going to get easier", Cornyn told reporters, per Politico.

Johnson's Democratic counterpart representing Wisconsin, Sen. She cited in part provisions that she believes could cut Medicaid more than the House version.

"The bill is just devastating". He said Democrats will continue to fight any repeal effort and push for bipartisan talks on Obamacare's wobbly markets.

The Senate remains on track to start Wednesday's procedural votes in hopes of passing the bill next week.

Senate language barring consumers from using tax credits for abortion might not pass the vetting process known as a "Byrd bath", forcing Republicans to funnel the money through an existing federal program that prohibits spending on the procedure.

Republicans have been saying for seven years that they want to repeal Obamacare, so I can hardly pretend to be surprised that they're doing it after winning the 2016 election. "It's people's health and lives that are at stake".
