Trump Questions Why Obama Administration Didn't Thwart Russian Election Meddling

A New York City election worker tests a ballot scanner ahead of the November 2016 election. Two congressional panels are looking into the extent of Russian attempts to hack parts of the election system

Spicer was asked whether Trump stands by the USA intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation tampered with the 2016 election and said only that he hadn't "sat down and asked [Trump] about his specific reaction".

The Russian scheme, which USA intelligence agencies concluded was wide-spread and intense, was meant to distort information in order to hurt Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and, therefore, help her challenger, now-President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson testified at a House Intelligence Committee hearing about what his agency knew about Russian interference and how it attempted to prevent it during the campaign season.

Johnson also said Russian hacking didn't change election totals, but added that he can't be sure other meddling didn't influence public opinion.

On Twitter, Trump challenged the Obama administration for failing to stop the Russians. "Why didn't they stop them?" he asked.

While Trump and his underlings continue to play silly games with the question of whether the Russians hacked into computers to influence the election a year ago, they might want to tell the Department of Homeland Security, where one official just admitted that they hit nearly two dozen state election computer systems. "It's all a big Dem HOAX!".

Ex-Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson's testimony Wednesday should mark the definitive end of "Russia hacked the election" hysteria. According to Johnson's testimony, the administration had known months before in mid-August about Russian efforts to target state electoral systems. Sources have also said that an ongoing investigation is looking into whether any of this data made its way back to the Trump campaign. "It's all a big Dem scam and excuse for losing the election!"

Johnson received several questions from the Committee on the timing of his release of information on the hacks to the public.

They will compete with Beyonce's "Sorry", Mars' " 24K Magic ", Solange's "Cranes In the Sky" and Big Sean's "Bounce Back". Kendrick Lamar surprised the audience when he performed with Future and won best male hip hop artist .

"My view is that we needed to do it, and we needed to do it well before the election to inform American voters of what we saw", Johnson said.

"The FBI and the DNC had been in contact with each other months before about the intrusion", he said.

Foreign powers attempting to influence US elections is not new.

Priestap remained silent. "I don't blame you for not answering that question", Heinrich said.

Elsewhere Thursday, CNN reported, citing multiple sources, that National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats told special counsel Robert Mueller's team and Senate investigators in separate meetings last week that Trump suggested they should announce that there was no collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation.

Clinton has blamed the disclosure of the emails on a daily basis as one reason for her election loss to Trump, although Johnson said he had no idea about their importance in analyzing the outcome.

In morning tweets, Trump opined on the Russian Federation probe and sought to assert his innocence, even as special counsel Robert S. Mueller III expands the investigation of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation to look at possible obstruction of justice by the president.

Special counsel Robert Mueller, conducting an inquiry into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, leaves Capitol Hill on.
