Cargo ship hits Green Bay bridge, crushes small boat

As Hagemeister's patio full of stunned patrons watched, the ship Kaye E. Barker struck the CityDeck, left a 16- to 18-foot boat in pieces, and sent kayaks tumbling from the dock into the water.

Green Bay police Captain Kevin Warych says the actions from the captain of the freighter is still a mystery.

There were no reports of any injuries. "Everybody started running; this family ran out yelling, 'That's our boat!' It literally was gone in 30 seconds".

Luckily, the Kaye E. Barker, which has a gross tonnage of 25,900, had already delivered its cargo of coal.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon near the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge, a popular spot for locals.

The U.S. Coast Guard and police are investigating the crash of a large cargo ship at a dock in downtown Green Bay.

Kaye E. Barker was built by the American Shipbuilding Company in Toledo.

The firm's vice president, Tom Wynne told USA Today that the captain encountered "unexpected and strong currents" that "pushed him to port as he was backing toward the bridge".

Nikki Unger, who was also enjoying a sunny day beside the river says the ship never stopped. "We were in the piano bar and noticed the boat was really close". Feldhausen said someone from the Coast Guard cut free a gasoline can from the damaged boat just as it overturned.

The bridge was closed after being struck by the bulk carrier, Kaye E. Barker, a vessel owned by the Interlake Steamship Company.

It was originally named Edward B Greene and was the flagship of the Cleveland-Cliffs Steamship Company fleet.

Health insurers have been strangely quiet about undoing Obamacare. Until now
Really, it would be the old and frail individuals, people more likely to need to visit their doctor, who would take a beating. As long as an insurer sold any ACA-compliant plan in a state, his amendment would allow them to also sell pre-ACA plans, too.
