Everton head to Netherlands without Ross Barkley for pre-season trip

Barkley's future at Goodison Park remains increasingly bleak after refusing to sign a new long-term contract beyond the final 12 months of his existing deal.

The England worldwide, who scored five goals in his 36 Premier League appearances last season, has always been linked with a move to Tottenham, but Everton are reported to be demanding £50million for the 23-year-old.

According to ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur have been put off making a move for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley this summer because his wage demands are too high, so what chance the England global having a rethink in order to push through a deal?

"Obviously, I know the manager from my time at Southampton, so I know what he wants and he knows what I can do".

Spurs still probably plan to sign him.

In contrast, Ronald Koeman criticised Ross Barkley frequently during the 2016-17 season, chastising him for not being tactically intelligent enough and challenging him to improve despite his good performances.

Reports: Real To Bid £50m For Man Utd Star
United later backed out and signed Belgian Romelu Lukaku from Everton for a reported transfer fee of 75 million pounds ($98.19 million).

Everton want 50 million pounds for Barkley. He really hasn't improved that much since breaking into the Everton first team in the 2013-14 season.

He'll add a different dynamic to Spurs' attacking midfield, while providing much needed depth in a season that will hopefully see Tottenham play upward of 60 matches.

Given how strong Spurs' starting XI is, it is hard to work out exactly where Barkley would fit in if he joined but perhaps Pochettino has plans to move him into a similar role to that now occupied by Mousa Dembele. And he's the type of player Pochettino will be able to influence, mold and extract the best from. Spurs are willing to pay between 25 and 30 million pounds.

But, will Ross Barkley be on-board?

Spurs have widely reported as suitors for Barkley recently and it appears a move could be back on the cards.
