Makarova and Vesnina cruise to Wimbledon women's doubles title

Those that hung around to watch the women were not delayed long as the second seeds thrashed their Chinese Taipei/Romanian opponents inside an hour to record their third grand slam crown.

It was a dominant women's doubles final at Wimbledon.

They also won their 10th doubles title together, the second one this year after 2017 Dubai, and it is definitely one of the most important ones.

It soon became clear that would not be the scenario playing out however, as Russians Makarova and Vesnina tore through the first set.

Kubot 35, and Melo 33 were broken in the 11th game of their match by Austrian Marach and Croatian Pavic and lost the first set before bouncing back to claim the next two sets.

Melo, who will return to world number one in the doubles rankings on Monday, adds another major title to the one he secured at the French Open in 2015.
