Several seriously injured after unmanned boat circles out of control

The boat continued at a high rate of speed, unmanned around Lake Gage causing further serious bodily injury and property damage, according to the DNR.

The 20-year-old boat operator was arrested and accused of boating while intoxicated causing injury and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Dominique Effinger, 20 of Fort Wayne, was driving the boat when it took a "violent turn" and threw all 10 people on board off of it and into Lake Gage in Indiana, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said in a press release. Effinger was later released on bond from the Steuben County Jail, according to Indiana DNR Law Enforcement, NBC News reported.

An Indiana conservation officer was eventually able to jump on to the boat and stop it. She told NewsChannel 15 in IN her husband escorted a paramedic in order to help the injured people thrown off into the water via a jet ski.

Others with less serious injuries were transported to Cameron Memorial Hospital in Angola.

The boat, a Correct Craft Ski Ski Nautique, was traveling at around 30 m.p.h. when it threw the passengers off and pushed forward at that pace.
