Tesla driver denies 'Autopilot' led to Minnesota crash

David Clark 58 and his four passengers were hurt when his Tesla suddenly accelerated while on autopilot careened off the road and flipped into a marsh

In this Minnesota case, officials claim that the Autopilot feature on the Tesla driven by 58-year-old David Clark accelerated suddenly causing the Tesla to rollover.

Clark told deputies that when he engaged the Autopilot feature, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, left the roadway and overturned in a marsh.

According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office, Mr Clark's Tesla was found overturned in a marsh but the injuries were "minor".

The autopilot feature uses cameras, radar and computers to detect objects and automatically brake if the vehicle is about to hit something.

Blue Apron shares are down 21.2% for the month to date while Amazon shares are up 3.5% for the period. Blue Apron had to settle for $10 , and that may still have been too high.

Federal investigators reviewed a May 2016 crash near Gainesville, Florida, in which a Tesla driver using the autopilot feature was killed in a collision with a semi. When drivers turn on the system, a message reminds them to remain engaged and be prepared to take the wheel.

Additionally, every time that Autopilot is engaged, the auto reminds the driver to "Always keep your hands on the wheel". In this case, there's probably a lot more investigation that is needed and Tesla will likely be sending out their own team to check this out.

After the incident, the National Transportation Safety Board issued a full report on the crash and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) decided not to issue a recall of that model of Tesla cars, finding no safety defect. But the driver said in the email released on Monday he believed he had disengaged the Autopilot system at the time of the crash.

Tesla shares were down about 2 percent to $321.13 in afternoon trading.
