US To Allow 15000 Additional Visas For Temporary Workers

The additional 15,000 visas stack on top of the 33,000 that the Department of Homeland Security has already allotted for the second half of the current fiscal year.

The Department of Homeland Security said on Monday that the US government will allow 15,000 additional visas for temporary seasonal workers to help American businesses suffering "irreparable harm" over from a lack of such employees.

The president issued an executive order in April directing the government to look into weak enforcement and loopholes relating to temporary employment laws for foreign workers.

And while President Donald Trump has touted a "Hire American" mantra, he's also defended the use of H-2B visas at places like his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Some 66,000 "H-2B" visas were allocated for this summer, and resorts from ME to Florida along the United States east coast have complained they don´t have enough. The extra visas will be available to companies that can how that their businesses would be harmed if they can't temporarily hire foreigner workers.

Trian to Launch Proxy Fight Against P&G
P&G have reportedly been in talks for five months, but the company is said to have rejected to name Peltz as a director last week. Trian says that Peltz will nominate the director that he replaces, which would expand the Board to a new total of 12 members.

"We do think it fits into the "America First" focus of the administration", said one of them. DHS also created a new tip line for people to report potential violations or abuse of the program.

Senior DHS officials described the increase as a "one-time" occurrence, saying Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly increased the number of temporary foreign workers on the visas, known as H-2B visas, after discussing the option with businesses and the Department of Labor.

While he was still serving in the Senate, Attorney General Jeff Sessions a year ago sent a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee asking them not to dramatically increase the number of H-2B visas as the House had done in a temporary spending bill. In an analysis of 10 occupations, Acosta said he found that wages had remained stagnant or declined in nine of them ― an indication that employers aren't raising wages the way they normally would if they had to attract workers.

"Congress gave Kelly the authority to put around 70,000 more of those jobs out of the reach of Americans; at least Kelly limited the damage to keeping just 15,000 more Americans out of the labor market", he said in a statement.
