West Indies depart Women's World Cup with heavy defeat against England

Women's World Cup South Africa elect to bat against hosts England in semi-final

ENGLAND have given themselves a huge advantage to win the Women's World Cup by being able to stay in Bristol for a few days before playing their semi-final against South Africa on Tuesday at The Brightside Ground.

England will now head into the semi-finals on the back of a sixth straight victory, while West Indies will return home.

However, 23 wickets at 16.17 in the Regional 4-Day Tournament has convinced the selectors Roach deserves another chance in three Tests, including the first day/night red-ball global, in England.

India confirmed their place in the semi-finals with a 186-run win over New Zealand at Derby.

Captain Heather Knight (67) top scored for England and Jenny Gunn (31no) and Laura Marsh (24no) added a handy 48 for the eighth wicket as the hosts stuttered to 220-7, at Bristol, after struggling to contend with West Indies spinners Afy Fletcher (3-33) and Anisa Mohammed (1-32).

But the burden has been shared throughout the competition, with Nat Sciver scoring a pair of centuries and captain Heather Knight a regular contributor with bat and ball. Both sides surpassed the 300-mark on that occasion, making 678 runs in total, the highest cumulative score in women's one-day worldwide history.

Chelsea Keen On Sergio Aguero
Premier League holders Chelsea could reportedly land the services of Sergio Aguero during this summer's transfer window. Spanish journalist Manu Sainz claimed last night that the Premier League champions were interested in the City hitman.

Matthews added 34 for the first wicket with Kycia Knight who made 17 before she was run out in a mix-up over a non-existent single in the 10 over.

Chedean Nation shovelled Sciver's first ball, a long hop, to deep square, where Beaumont held a brilliant running catch, then Merissa Aguilleira was pinned in front, one of seven LBWs in the innings, a record for a Women's One Day International.

The lbw calls continued to come, and all-rounder Sciver clinched her third wicket in three overs after Fletcher played all-round her legs.

But once Beaumont scooped a full toss from Fletcher to the wicketkeeper in the 22 over, three wickets fell for 14 runs to leave England stumbling on 105 for five in the 26 over.

India will meet now meet holders Australia in the other semi-final at Derby on July 20.

"I knew the surface wasn't great, with a very dry wicket and lots of turn for the spinners, so I knew it was going to be hard work, but we managed to get a couple of partnerships together and then a little flurry of runs at the end".
