Former Balch Springs officer indicted for 15-year-old Jordan Edwards' murder

Roy Oliver, the fired Balch Springs police officer who shot and killed 15-year-old Jordan Edwards, has been indicted by a grand jury for murder on Monday.

On Monday, a grand jury indicted him on the murder charge as well as four charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by a public official, in connection with the four other teens who were in the auto at the time, the Tribune reported.

Oliver initially claimed the auto, driven by one of Edwards' brothers, had reversed into the officers, justifying his decision to open fire on the Chevy Impala.

Police had initially said the vehicle reversed "aggressively" towards the officer, but footage discredited the claim, showing the auto driving forward, away from him.

Edwards, who was described by family and friends as a standout high school student and athlete, was struck in the head by a bullet and died.

Neymar has been with Barcelona since 2013, winning two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey titles and one UEFA Champions League. The 25-year-old is about to enter his fifth season at the Nou Camp - but he might not be there for much longer.

Lee Merritt, a lawyer representing the Edwards family, greeted the news of Monday's indictment with cautious optimism.

"We're looking forward to a conviction and proper sentencing", Merritt said, adding he would consider anything that doesn't involve serious jail time as less than adequate.

Last month, Oliver was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by a public servant in an unrelated incident, where he is accused of displaying a gun during a traffic accident. The Dallas County Sheriff's Department officially charged Oliver with murder shortly after the shooting. He's now out of jail on a $700,000 bond.

Edwards was allegedly shot by Oliver when the vehicle he was riding in was moving away from Police.

After authorities issued an arrest warrant charging Oliver with murder, he turned himself in on May 5.
