Gender Reveal Party Shooting Victim Wasn't Pregnant After All, Police Say

An Ohio woman who told police that she had lost her unborn child after being shot in the leg at her gender-reveal party was not pregnant.

Police spokesman James Love told PEOPLE that the revelation that Willis was not pregnant had hampered investigations.

Eight people, including three children, were wounded in the shooting when two men opened fire inside a home July 8.

Partygoers were watching a movie when two gunmen came in through the front door and fired 14 rounds, police said. Seven other people were injured in the shooting and 22-year-old Autum Garrett was killed. A dog was also injured.

"Hours and days have been wasted following leads known to be lies when they were provided to our officers", it read.

"The goal of the party was to disclose the gender of Cheyanne Willis' unborn child", an officer wrote in a police report obtained by the paper.

Denney said he wasn't trying to embarrass anyone by revealing the fake pregnancy, but wanted to illustrate the difficulties the police department has been facing.

But cops from Colerain Township, outside Cincinnati, have now revealed Willis was never actually pregnant.

So far, no one has been arrested.

Willis was treated at University of Cincinnati Medical Center and released.

At the time she said: "She had a miscarriage right before and she's been wanting a child".

"It was a pretty quick succession, it was one after the other, like they went in there and they unloaded as many bullets as they possibly could and then ran off", Sizemore said.

Police said they will no longer comment on misleading information and will instead focus all resources on solving the case.

Following the shooting, they fled on foot, Denney said.

Willis made a post on Facebook prior to the shooting saying "It's a boy!"

"We were led to believe an unborn child was murdered in this incident only to find out that was not the case", police said in the statement.

Authorities are offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information that leads to the capture of the responsible parties.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking for the public's help in the investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 513-321-COPS or Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
