IIFA 2017: Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt starrer Udta Punjab sweeps awards

Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were named Best Actors at the 18th edition of the IIFA Awards, for their remarkable work in "Udta Punjab" on Saturday.

Hosted by Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and producer-director Karan Johar, the ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of Bollywood in different cities across the world, is a three-day extravaganza that started from July 13 and is being held at the iconic MetLife Stadium in NY.

The hosts for the evening, Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan, kept the audience in splits with great repartee and witty conversations with fellow Bollywood celebrities. She played the role of a Bihari migrant girl in the movie.

"Raabta" actors Rajput and Sanon performed on retro tracks, while Dhawan paid tribute to his father David Dhawan by grooving to his chartbusters.

Amit Mishra bagged Best Playback Singer (Male) award for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil while Kanika Kapoor Tulsi Kumar jointly won the Best Playback Singer (Female) award for Udta Punjab and Airlift respectively. Speaking at the weekend press conference about the IIFA Awards in NY, the 24-year-old actress said that she has not been a part of the IIFA till today and now feels like everything happens for a reason.

Meanwhile, Shakun Batra and Ayesha Devitre Dhillon walked away with the award for Best Story.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil dominated the music categories. "The Untold Story, ' 'Neerja, ' 'Pink, ' 'Sultan" and 'Udta Punjab" to bag the honour. Varun Dhawan bagged the Best Performance in Comic Role for Dishoom.

"Neerja" turned out to be thebig victor when it took home the coveted award for Best Picture.
