Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus found in Butte County

Culex tarsalis mosquito numbers are increasing in southern Saskatchewan

Over the weekend, a mosquito surveillance/monitoring trap near Dixie River Road and Pinto Road northeast of Greenleaf in Canyon County tested positive for West Nile virus, according to Ed Burnett, District Director of the Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District.

Beginning around 9:15pm, an area bordered by Brand Road to the north, Post Road to the south will be sprayed for mosquitoes by Franklin County Public Health.

The virus risk is low, but the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment warned that hotter days in July and August are flawless conditions for the Culex mosquito and the virus.

About 75 percent of people infected with West Nile virus don't show symptoms, according to the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment.

Comprehensive Stock Analysis Of Bank of America Corporation (BAC)
Legacy Private Trust Co. bought a new position in shares of Bank of America Corporation during the second quarter worth $455,000. Winslow Evans & Crocker Inc. raised its position in shares of Bank of America Corporation by 2.1% in the second quarter.

The reported case was in Forrest County.

Since 2004, 229 Butte County residents have contracted the virus and eight have died. Mosquito repellant is the number one defense to prevent getting bitten by an infected mosquito. While this is true for mosquitoes that commonly carry the West Nile virus, other types of mosquitoes that are more likely to carry Zika, dengue and chikungunya are active during the day.

-DRAIN any standing water on your property that may cause mosquitos and remember: Do Not Over Irrigate. Along with birds and humans, horses are also affected by the virus.

DEP recommends residents try to eliminate mosquito habitats where they live. Repellents with DEET, picaridin, IR3535 and some oil of lemon eucalyptus and para-menthane-diol provide the best protection.
