Paul Pierce signs contract allowing him to retire as a Celtic

Paul Pierce Officially Retires a Member of the Boston Celtics

In 2013, Pierce signed with the Brooklyn Nets, where he played for one season.

Maybe what the team should've tried to do, instead of signing Gordon Hayward, would be to invest large amounts of money to get Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen back on the team for one last run as the Big Three.

Pierce spent 15 years with the Celtics, making it to 10 NBA All-Star games.

Also as part of the Boston icon's return to Celtics headquarters: No future Celtic will wear Pierce's No. 34, per owner Wyc Grousbeck.

Taiwan's Chan and partner trounced in Wimbledon final
The Russians Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina beat Hao-Ching Chan and Monica Niculescu 6-0 6-0 in just 56 minutes play. For the first time since 1953, the ladies Doubles final at Wimbledon has ended in a dreaded double bagel.

Paul Pierce will go down as one of the greatest Boston Celtics of all time and on Monday the Celtics gave him the opportunity to retire as one. "We congratulate Paul on his Hall of Fame career, and look forward to seeing his number raised to the rafters of TD Garden".

Named the Most Valuable Player of that 2008 clash, Pierce became the third Celtic ever to earn MVP honors in his first NBA Finals Appearance (Jo Jo White - 1974, Cedric Maxwell - 1981). But after a wayward four seasons elsewhere, Pierce reached an agreement to join his former team for a day. "I'm a Celtic for life".

Pierce also retires in the organization's Top 10 lists in games played (1,102, 3rd), minutes played (40,360, 3rd), field goals (7,882, 3rd), field goal attempts (17,630, 2nd), 3-point field goal attempts (4,928, 1st), free throw attempts (7,979, 1st), offensive rebounds (1,008, 8th), rebounds (6,651, 7th), assists (4,305, 5th) and blocked shots (668, 4th). He's the second-leading scorer in Celtics history, trailing only Havlicek, and made the most 3-pointers by a member of this storied franchise.
