Sergio Romero Signs New United Contract

United are confident that Romero could step up and be the club's No 1 if David De Gea leaves

Upon signing the deal, the 30-year-old shot-stopper stated: "I am delighted to have signed a new contract".

Sergio Romero has signed a new contract which will keep him at Manchester United until June 2021.

The goalkeeper's contract was set to expire next season, but now he has signed a new long-term deal and is set to compete with David de Gea and youngster Joel Pereira for game time next season.

"I am very happy because when I started with the club, I quickly realised it is fantastic and it is the biggest club in the world". We have great goalkeepers here and we are always learning from each other.

Romero made just two Premier League appearances last season but played nearly of their Europa League, culminating in him keeping a clean sheet in the victory over Ajax in the final.

WEATHER WARNING: Scattered thunderstorms and downpours forecast for the North West
Citizens can look out for more rainy weather due to one of two weather systems heading toward the Caribbean region later this week.

Romero is now United's second-choice goalkeeper behind David De Gea, but the 30-year-old has produced some impressive performances when called upon in cup competitions.

The Argentina global started 12 matches in United's victorious Europa League campaign last season, including the final against Ajax, and made a total of 18 appearances across all competitions.

"Sergio is a great goalkeeper and professional".

Romero played a pivotal role in bringing Manchester United back to the Champions League next season, by winning the Europa League. He is likely to play in the club's next fixture against Real Salt Lake. He didn't see action in United's rout of L.A. Galaxy in the preseason friendly opener, but Mourinho promised we'll see a full half of Sergio Romero in the next two exhibition matches.

"In the second match, David does not play, " Mourinho said earlier in the week. "We will play David for 45 and Romero for 45".
