UN deplores Palestinians deaths in Jerusalem

The area was swarming with a vast police operation, which prevented the access of the global press in points near the complex, such as the Lions' Gate.

Three Palestinian protesters were killed in clashes Friday in Jerusalem and the West Bank while three Israeli citizens were later killed in a stabbing attack in the West Bank as unrest grew over a contested shrine.

The al-Aqsa Mosque is Israel's third holiest shrine, after Mecca and Medina, as well as the ruins of the Biblical Jewish Temple.

"A few hundred Palestinians faced off against Israeli forces guarding a gate of Jerusalem's walled Old City", said NPR's Daniel Estrin, reporting from the scene.

Hanan Ashrawi, a senior Palestinian official, described the placement of metal detectors, as well as security cameras, at the entrances to the Al Aqsa mosque compound as "a flagrant violation of the rights and freedoms of Palestinian Muslim worshippers".

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on Friday announced a freeze of all contacts with Israel over violence in Jerusalem.

Israel says the detectors are necessary for security reasons following the killing of two of its police officers at the East Jerusalem compound last week.

Former Britain's Got Talent victor Pudsey the dog has died
They added: "Once Ashleigh's heartache has eased, she looks forward to continuing with her career". The post read: "We are saddened to hear that today we lost Pudsey, a most marvellous victor ".

Israeli police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said reinforcements have been deployed in and around the Old City.

Three Palestinians have been fatally shot amid mass protests in Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday urged his Israeli counterpart Reuven Rivlin to swiftly remove metal detectors that have outraged Muslim Palestinian worshippers at the Haram al-Sharif in annexed east Jerusalem.

Metal detectors and extra video cameras were installed at the holy site.

The weekly Friday prayers draw the largest number of participants, and speculation has intensified over whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will order the removal of the metal detectors.

Water canon and tear gas were fired after rioters threw stones and other objects outside the walls of the Old City, police said.

Friday is the highlight of the Muslim religious week, when tens of thousands typically converge on the holy site for prayers.
