The staffer, Imran Awan, was arrested Monday night on a bank fraud charge as he prepared to leave the country after months of investigation by U.S. Capitol Police involving Awan and at least four other information technology staffers who worked for House Democrats.

Sanders was asked at a press briefing today if President Donald Trump had an opinion on the matter.

TheDC has heard multiple reports from witnesses who say that Wasserman Schultz has appeared despondent and jumpy since Awan's arrest.

"After details of the investigation were reviewed with us, my office was provided no evidence to indicate that laws had been broken, which over time, raised troubling concerns about due process, fair treatment and potential ethnic and religious profiling", she said. The former DNC chair even threatened Capitol Police with "consequences" if they did not return equipment that pertained to the investigation.

Awan's attorney Chris Gowen, in an email statement to Politico, said: "This is clearly a right-wing media-driven prosecution by a United States attorney's office that wants to prosecute people for working while Muslim". FBI Special Agent Brandon Merriman said in the affidavit that the misrepresentations revolved around written assurances that the home serving as collateral for the loan was a "principal residence". The investigation, which included physical surveillance and interviews, determined that the couple did not reside at the property used to secure the loan.

Columnist says Scaramucci freakout shows Trump White House is floundering
Scaramucci has promised to contact investigators over what he says is an illegal leak of his financial disclosure form . His hedge fund firm, SkyBridge Capital, will be sold to a Chinese company, the HNA Group, once regulators sign off.

FBI investigators say bank records show $283,000 was wired to two individuals in Pakistan, and that Awan purchased a flight to Doha, Qatar, and then to Lahore, Pakistan. She has not returned.

Awan's wife Hina Alvi, who was charged as a co-conspirator, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit, departed the USA for Pakistan in March with their children.

Awan, a Pakistani-born IT aide, had access to all emails and files of dozens of members of Congress, as well as the password of Wasserman Schultz iPad, which she used for Democratic National Committee business before resigning as its head in July 2016. None of the other staffers has been charged. However, Fox News reported Tuesday that Wasserman Schultz still has Awan on her staff's payroll despite him being barred from accessing the House's computer system since February.

"We have to get to the bottom of this, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz has obstructed at every level on something that affects potentially our national security".
