Erica Newsome told police after the crash that she left Jacksonville on Friday with the body of her daughter, Kaye-lea Plummer, to drive to the home of the girl's father in Buffalo, West Virginia's Pocahontas Times reported.

According to multiple reports in West Virginia, Newsome lost control of her vehicle Sunday and struck a guard rail on Allegheny Mountain, a mile and a half west of the Virginia border, Sunday morning. They were found on an old logging road about 150 feet beyond an embankment.

State Police Sgt. Herby Barlow said that it was obvious the girl did not die from injuries in the accident despite the mother's claims.

After their investigation, police in Jacksonville, Florida discovered a crime scene in Newsome's home and believe that's where the girl was killed, before she was loaded into the vehicle.

Newsome was arrested and charged with concealment of a corpse. There is no confirmation on a cause of death, but foul play is suspected and more arrests could be forthcoming in Florida.

A search warrant has been filed to check her vehicle, police there were waiting for the arrival of Jacksonville Sherifff's Office detectives before enforcing the warrant.

Police said a couple from New York City who were driving on the same highway reported that they saw Newsome remove a body from the truck and drag it over the hill after the 11:20 a.m. crash.

Plummer and Newsome had been separated since 2014, and he said that they didn't have a solid relationship, but they kept in contact.

The father told WJXT4, "We didn't always agree on everything, but she was a great mother". 'Something is very, very wrong. The woman said she was heading for Buffalo, N.Y., where the child's father lives.

To date it isn't necessarily understood if the mother sought counseling and whether child services ever becoming involved. Says Erica Newsome was calling him along the trip acting like everything was OK.
