Houston family claims dog died while in cargo hold on United flight

The Rasmussen family from Houston claims that their dog Lulu died while in the cargo of a delayed United Airlines flight that was stuck on a San Francisco tarmac for two hours

US airlines reported the lowest level of involuntary passenger bumping since 1995 in the months following a high-profile case in which a man was injured while being dragged off a plane in Chicago.

The improvement came amid the worldwide firestorm of publicity in April, when United Airlines had a passenger dragged off a full flight in Chicago.

That's the lowest rate since the government started keeping track in 1995.

On April 9, a Vietnamese-American doctor was violently removed from his seat on an overbooked United Airlines flight by aviation policemen at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, to give seats to crew members, which sparked wide-spread criticism on social media.

Following widespread outrage over a passenger who was violently dragged off an overbooked plane, USA airlines are bumping customers at the lowest rate in at least two decades. Since April, airlines have increased the compensation they paid customers who are denied a seat and made other policy changes.

However, the annual 2017 North America Airline Satisfaction Study by market research firm J.D. Power released in May found that overall customer satisfaction with commercial airlines is at its highest level in 13 years, as NPR's David Schaper reported. Spirit had the largest rate of canceled flights, at 4.1 percent, and Delta had the lowest, at 0.1 percent.

During a 2015 interview with Larry King , Newsom, a 35-year-old renowned harpist, said that she and her comedian husband were discussing having children.

Airlines also reported a lower rate of mishandled baggage - 2.65 reports per 1,000 passengers in June, down from June 2016's rate of 2.82.

The department has launched an airline passenger website to make it easy for travelers to understand their rights. The three incidents compared to one report in May and six in June 2016.

KTRK didn't indicate when the ill-fated flight took place. The 9,026 complaints during the first six months of the year was up 7.8% from the 8,375 during the same period a year earlier.

The department said 76.2 percent of flights in June arrived on time, down from 78.0 percent in June 2016.

The Transportation Department issued the latest numbers of bumped passengers as it released its monthly report card on airline performance.
