Consumer Reports just un-recommended Microsoft's Surface range

Microsoft disputed the study saying the company’s return and support rates differ significantly from the Consumer Reports study

The nonprofit consumer advocacy group surveyed 90,000 laptop and tablet owners and found that around 25 percent of Microsoft Surface device owners would be face with "problems by the end of the second year of ownership". "Due to its comparatively higher breakage rate, Microsoft laptops can not be recommended by Consumer Reports at this time", the publication notes.

Predictably, Microsoft is unhappy with the news. Nonetheless, while it has great things to say - like much of the industry, ourselves included - about the Surface range in terms of performance, it argues it can't recommend the current models. Common problems cited include freezing, unexpected shutdowns, and issues with the touchscreen, among others. However, Surface is a small part of Microsoft's overall revenue, and Surface revenue has declined year-over-year for the past two quarters.

Jeff Dunn/Business InsiderAltogether, the reliability issues made Microsoft a statistical outlier compared with other brands. That being said, we don't know the full scale of the issues reported by users as the report does not dive in deep enough to say if the impacted users who had issues are returning their hardware or simply had one-off instances. Beyond its annual 65-year-old consumer survey, Consumer Reports bases its findings on actual product testing done by engineers and technicians with "years and sometimes decades of expertise in their field", the group explained on its website.

"We don't believe these findings accurately reflect Surface owners' true experiences or capture the performance and reliability improvements made with every Surface generation", the company said in a statement.

British Airways announces non-stop flights from Nashville to London
The transatlantic flight's average yearly economic impact is estimated at $103 million, according to the release. Travelers will also have the opportunity to connect to more than 130 destinations that British Airways flies.

When Microsoft held an event previous year, everybody thought that they were going to announce the Microsoft Surface Smartphone but that did not happen. The decision particularly impacts the latest Microsoft Surface Laptop and the Surface Book, which the reviews organization had initially awarded its coveted "recommended" designation.

For both tablets and laptops, the difference between Microsoft and most other brands is statistically significant, which is why the brand doesn't meet Consumer Reports's standards for recommended products.

However, lab tests performed by Consumer Reports seemed to show the Surface products performing well in many categories.
