Standoff with gunman on I-75 in Monroe County ends peacefully

Michigan State Police tell 13abc that both directions of I-75 are closed between Luna Pier and S. Otter Creek.

They say they will open the freeway as soon as possible. They did a welfare check and found him in a vehicle in Pontiac.

The man began streaming live on Facebook at some point.

He was eventually taken into custody without incident about 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Michigan State Police officers picked him up on I-75 and deployed spike strips which caused him to crash near mile marker 7 on southbound I-75.

Deputies of the county sheriff's office in Pontiac, Michigan, attempted to do a wellness check on the 37-year-old man early Thursday morning, according to CBS news radio affiliate WWJ in Detroit. Deputies terminated the pursuit near University Dr.in Auburn Hills and issued a BOL.

The man's vehicle was disabled by police using spike strips on southbound I-75 near Gaynier Road, where he was in the standoff with officers for almost six hours. Michigan State Police vehicles joined the chase at Gibraltar Road and continued south into Monroe County.
