Get your 'eclipse glasses' from the Boston Public Library

For the first time in nearly four decades a total solar eclipse will be visible to parts of the continental United States on Aug. 21. This image was taken during a 2002 total solar eclipse

Keep in mind the eclipse should begin at 9:13 a.m. on august 21 and will reach its peak at 10:33 a.m.

The path of totality will enter the USA on the Oregon Coast and exit on the coast of SC. The last time a total solar eclipse occurred exclusively in the USA was in 1778. The path of the eclipse started in the Northwest, beginning in Washington and traveling east to North Dakota before moving into Canada. "There will be countless filmmakers ready to capture footage of the event as it happens, but this series on CuriosityStream will set you up perfectly ahead of time, before the eclipse, so you don't miss a chance to be part of this incredible opportunity".

On Monday, August 21, people will be able to view a total solar eclipse as it moves eastward through the US from OR to SC.

National Park Service staff say the last time an eclipse path crossed the continental United States, Jimmy Carter was president, a gallon of gas cost 86 cents, and Atari video games were popular.

For a few dramatic minutes next month, the Sun will be blotted from the sky by the Moon passing in front of it. The umbral is the small shadow cast on Earth where people will be able to see a total eclipse.

The most recent total solar eclipse to cross the USA was back in 1991, according to NASA's website.

2016 was hottest year on record, global report confirms
A graph of the global mean surface temperature for the six-month period of January through June of each year from 1880-2016. It says that 2016 surpassed 2015 as the warmest year in 137 years of recordkeeping.

Anyone within the 70-mile-wide path that stretches through fourteen states from OR to SC will experience a total eclipse, arguably nature's most awe inspiring sight.

Meteorologists at The Weather Channel are starting to get a look at the overall weather pattern that may be in place in two weeks.

I am certain not everyone gets as excited as I do about these things, but I am certain that travelling to see the eclipse will not be something we regret any time soon.

Researchers will also take advantage of the rare eclipse to study the sun and the Earth using instruments on the ground and in space. The path of totality stretches from Lincoln Beach, Oregon, to Charleston, South Carolina, hitting parts of Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois and Tennessee on the way.

According to the NASA website, "the only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters such as "eclipse glasses" or hand-held solar viewers".
