Robert Jeffress: Trump has moral authority to kill North Korean dictator

The Texas preacher, who leads a congregation of more than 10,000 members at First Baptist Church in Dallas, commended Trump for not tolerating North Korea's threats.

So tonight, Pastor Robert Jeffress, a longtime evangelical backer of Donald Trump, just released a statement saying the president has the moral authority to take out Kim Jong Un. Unlike former President Barack Obama, who, according to Jeffress, opened the door to the Antichrist and failed to act decisively on matters of national security.

During his stay at his Bedminster, N.J., golf club on August 8, President Trump said North Korea "will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen" if they continue making nuclear "threats".

Some Christians also point to the chapter before that, Romans 12, which reads: "Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good".

"Some Christians, perhaps younger Christians, have to think this through", he said. "Frankly, it's because they are not well taught in the Scriptures".

Jeffress said most Christians will agree that it is Trump's duty as a leader to keep the peace when someone like Kim threatens innocent civilians in another land.

"People instinctively know that this president is not going to draw an imaginary red line and walk around it like President Obama did", he said.

Pro-Buhari rally hits Abuja
The placard carrying pro-Buhari protesters kicked against what they described as rent a group which is trying to undermine the peace of Nigeria.

The U.S. government calculated last month that North Korea controls up to 60 nuclear weapons, while some independent experts believe that the number of bombs is much smaller.

Jeffress is unusual for an evangelical pastor because most pastors do not speak about specific foreign policy issues from the pulpit, except sometimes about Israel, said Amy Black, a political science professor at Wheaton College, an evangelical institution in IL.

More specifically, the evangelical pastor was referring to a passage in Romans 13, in which it is written, "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established".

"We are all singing from the same hymn book", she said.

Black says that Jeffress represents an "old guard" of evangelicals, closely aligned to leaders like popular radio personality and psychologist James Dobson and Pat Robertson, who founded the Christian Broadcasting Network.

"Regardless of our political views, we ought to be praying for our president right now and praying for God's wisdom as he deals with a very, very tough situation", the pastor concludes.

Jeffress is one of President Trump's evangelical advisors who preached on his inauguration morning.
