Buccaneers kicker Roberto Aguayo released after missing two preseason kicks

Roberto Aguayo

The Bucs finally released their mistake in grabbing a kicker so early, but now maybe Aguayo can shake off the pressure of his draft status and thrive on another team.

Roberto Aguayo converted 1-of-2 field goals and missed an extra point in the Bucs' preseason opener. After reports of him struggling in practice surfaced during the 2016 offseason, Aguayo missed his first kick of the preseason, an extra point, and then missed two field goals later in the preseason.

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher suggested past year changes to Aguayo's kicking routine may have contributed to his inconsistency.

Making matters worse for the youngster, the hottest kicking competition in the league (don't @ me) got even hotter when 32-year-old veteran Nick Folk drilled a 45-yarder. He only made 22 of his 31 field goal attempts (71 percent) and his career-long make was only 43 yards.

Aguayo tried to stay upbeat about what happened, but the performance provoked a familiar response from coach Dirk Koetter after the game.

North Korea says no negotiations over its nukes
He said Washington would not "specify a specific number of days or weeks" before deciding North Korea had indeed halted its tests. Security Council unanimously approved new sanctions on North Korea Saturday, including banning exports worth over $1 billion.

"Honestly, the [extra point] felt good, " he said.

The Buccaneers kicker began the preseason ideal by way of a chip shot 20-yard field goal on Tampa Bay's opening drive. Not what you want.

"Well, that's something that will definitely be talked about, " Koetter said, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. Not what I wanted. "You just have to keep your head up move on to the next day". Obviously, not up to the standards that I want. I did some good things.

"When you get bored doing something, 'well there's more I can do". "You know, I keep saying it, I can't say it anymore. It's a new day". You're a kicker. You gotta make your kicks.
