Marines to Pause Flight Operations for Review After Osprey Crash

Japan OKs US flights of Ospreys in Japan

On Monday, the submerged wreckage of a U.S. military aircraft was found two days after it crashed off the east coast of Australia, killing three U.S. Marines. An MV-22 Osprey that had launched from the USS Bonhomme was conducting regularly scheduled operations when it crashed into the water off Australia's east coast August 5.

Units will determine the timing of the 24-hour stand-down so it will not affect any combat operations.

MV-22 Ospreys with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, await the green light for takeoff April 17, 2016 on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Japan.

Gen. Robert Neller, Marine Corps commandant, said unit commanders could schedule the pause at their discretion within a two-week period.

LONDON MARKET EARLY CALL: North Korea Tensions Set To Weigh On Stocks
The UK blue-chip index closed 113 points, or 1.5%, lower at 7,385, steadily losing ground as the trading session wore on. The pound was down 0.09% against the euro at 1.1049 and down nearly 0.2% on the dollar at 1.2978.

The move affects about 800 total aircraft, and does not include those now deployed, a U.S. Marine Corps spokesman confirmed to Fox News.

The Japanese Defense Ministry said Ospreys had been given clearance for flights after United States investigators ruled out mechanical failures as the cause of last Saturday's fatal crash off Australia, Sputnik reported. Three Marines died in the crash.

And on July 10, a KC-130T carrying seven Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command troops and a Marine crew of 9 went down in MS after a transport mission, killing all 16 aboard. All 16 aboard were killed: 15 Marines and a Navy corpsman.

The goal of the reset is to review certain incidents and study historic examples of investigations into fleet incidents to bring about awareness and best practices.
