North Korea missiles can reach Guam in 14 minutes, local official says

The 27-year-old is preparing to cast into the turquoise ocean that extends as far as the eye can see - the same waters that North Korea is developing a plan to send four missiles into, less than 25 miles from where he stands.

The military has more than 5,000 troops permanently stationed on Guam, a small USA island territory that North Korea has said it plans to launch missiles toward.

"Do not look at the flash or fireball - It can blind you".

It also includes tips for citizens caught outside during a potential nuclear attack.

Guam is a relatively isolated island known for little more than its USA military port.

The U.S. -made Patriot batteries aren't the only pieces of high-tech American military gear in Japan that will have its ears perked up.

There are multiple actions the US or North Korea could take before, for example, targeting the other with a missile: the USA continues to conduct sorties over the Korean peninsula with B-1B Lancer strategic bombers, and North Korea could fire Scud-type missile towards, but not at, Guam. Some South Koreans and Japanese are now wondering if the U.S.is willing to risk San Francisco, Chicago or Los Angeles if North Korea conducts provocations towards its allies.

Sen. Luther Strange touts Trump endorsement in new ads
Mo Brooks is using President Donald Trump's critical comments about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in an ad against Sen. In 2016, he was removed the bench for ordering Alabama judges to defy federal court orders on gay marriage.

In addition to the military presence, Guam also relies heavily on tourism to boost its economy, attracting more than 1.5 million visitors drawn to its pristine beaches and luxury resorts in 2016.

A THAAD battery is also stationed on Guam.

"Stay where you are, even if you are separated from your family", it said. "They are here to protect the islands, just in case something happens".

"Lie flat on the ground and cover your head. Removing the outer layer of clothing can remove up to 90% of radioactive material", read the guidelines of what to do if caught outside. The fact sheet also advises people against calling the school to check on their kids, as doing so could "slow down emergency operations and make it hard for officials to communicate directly with school staff".

It offers advice for parents who are away from their children during a strike.

Resident Isaac Camacho, 19, says he feels Guam's relationship with the US mainland is "a little misunderstood on their part". Although much of American strategic focus in the Pacific focuses on China, North Korea, Continental Asia, and the "first island chain" comprising of Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines, the geostrategic importance of strengthening and maintaining American power in the far-off atolls and islands of the South Pacific must not be forgotten. "Remember that radiation can not be seen, smelled or otherwise detected by human senses", the document concludes.

Ms Jenna Gaminde, the Homeland Security spokeswoman, told a press briefing on Thursday that the residents would be immediately notified by the 15 All-Hazards Alert Warning System sirens, located in low-lying areas throughout the island, the Pacific Daily News reported. Things that would indicated increased risk include growing USA military deployments to the region or a North Korean satellite launch, for example; on the other hand, indicators of reduced risk include evidence of unofficial talks or signs of smaller-scale or delayed joint U.S.
