Pahlaj Nihalani sacked as Censor board, Prasoon Joshi appointed successor

Prasoon Joshi who is a Padma Shree awardee was appointed CBFC chief replacing the controversial Pahlaj Nihalani in a sudden announcement yesterday

Mr Nihalani has been replaced by Prasoon Joshi, and a large number of users of Twitter are happy about it. In his short tenure, he was surrounded by many controversies. He demanded cuts in the movie and mercilessly chopped off scenes. CBFC headed by Pahlaj Nihalani after denying certification for nearly six months, demanded chopping off 27 scenes from the film. The government replaced Pahlaj Nihalani, who has hogged headlines for his controversial decisions, with Joshi in a surprise announcement today.

There have been films like "Udta Punjab", "Jab Harry Met Sejal" and "Lipstick Under My Burkha" which have been targeted by him. CBFC also refused certification to Malayalam movie Ka Bodyscapes saying it gay relationships.

Vidya Balan is joined on the Censor Board by Gautami Tadimalla, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal and Neil Herbert Nongkynrih among others. "Prasoon Joshi as Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification in an honorary capacity from 11th August, 2017 for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier", said an Information and Broadcasting Ministry statement. Before he was appointed the chairperson of CBFC, Nihalani produced BJP's campaign video for the 2014 general elections, Har Har Modi, Ghar Ghar Modi.

Fidget spinners involved in multiple choking incidents
Fidget spinners are typically designed with a center bearing with weights around the perimeter and are spun in a person's hand. The spinners are especially popular with teenagers, and what teenagers find cool, younger children want to play with.

But now it seems that a good news is on its way for all those filmmakers. This just got interesting! The unpopularity of the CBFC chief had soared in his two years in office, and the appointment of Joshi, a respected creative figure with no political baggage, will be a welcome relief for the film industry.

It's like going from an RGV film to one directed by Raj Kumar Hirani.
