Seoul shares end lower on foreign selling amid tensions over North Korea

US stocks close lower after President Trump's remarks to North Korea

Trump issued a new tweet-warning to Pyongyang on Friday: "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely".

Stocks tumbled today after President Donald J. Trump said his "fire and fury" comment to North Korea "maybe wasn't tough enough".

"We're not very oversold yet so the market still has more downside left to it", said Robert Pavlik, chief market strategist at Boston Private Wealth in NY.

The UK's stock market ended the week down 1.1% as worries over the situation between the USA and North Korea continue to rattle investors.

Wall Street closed lower yesterday: The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.93 per cent to close at 21,844, the S&P 500 fell 1.45 per cent to close at 2,438 and the NASDAQ lost 2.13 per cent to close at 6,217.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index closed down 143.08 points, or 0.94 percent, at 15,074.25, its lowest close since July 7. Kohl's said net income for the second quarter was $208 million, or $1.24 per share, versus $140 million, or 77 cents per share, in the same period a year ago. Britain's FTSE 100 added 0.1 percent.

"Pretty remarkable, perhaps even extraordinary, considering", said Tim Ash, strategist at fund manager BlueBay.

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who often has emphasized the devastating costs of any conflict with North Korea, seemed to back up Trump's tone.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 78.64 cents United States, down from an average price of 78.71 cents U.S. on Wednesday.

The yen tends to benefit during times of geopolitical or financial stress as Japan is the world's biggest creditor nation and there is an assumption that Japanese investors there will repatriate funds should a crisis materialize.

Across Europe, Gemany's Dax was off 1.2% and the Cac 40 in France dropped by 0.6%.

All three USA indices fell sharply, with the broad-based S&P 500 tumbling 1.5 percent. The euro rose to $1.1824 from $1.1774. Basically if the streak of trading days without a 1%+ up or down day is going to be broken, it's better for it to break with a 1%+ down day than a 1%+ up day. That is significant because yields fall when bond prices rise.

The latest USA economic data cemented expectations that inflation will remain subdued amid a robust labour market. Travel-review website operator TripAdvisor was down 2.7 percent.

Safe havens benefited from the move away from stocks - gold rising again to around $1,290 an ounce after surging 1.3 percent Wednesday - but other risky assets such as oil and copper held their price. It is now on track for its biggest weekly drop since the week before the November 8 USA presidential election.
