Bryce Harper Helped Off Field After Suffering Scary Knee Injury

Giants-Nationals game postponed after lengthy rain delay

Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper, the National League MVP in 2015, left the game in the first inning Saturday night against the San Francisco Giants after his left foot slipped on the first base bag as he tried to beat out a groundball to first baseman Ryder Jones. This certainly seems like the type of injury that could mean the end of Harper's 2017 campaign.

Bryce Harper appeared to injure his left knee when he slipped on a wet first base, a potentially devastating blow to the NL East-leading Washington Nationals. He immediately grabbed his left knee while falling to the ground and writhed in pain behind first base. Harper fell to the ground and held his left knee for several minutes after making the second out. Hitting coach Rick Schu and trainer Paul Lessard then helped him off the field.

The game began just after 10 p.m. local time following a 3-hour rain delay. His final season in the majors yielded uneven results, pairing an impressive 25 home runs with a less impressive.196/.257/.453 batting line in 362 PA.

Olympics could open North Korea -- Rex Tilley
I'd say he's being incredibly irresponsible and he's putting us in a situation where you could have an accidental launch.

For all of the Nationals' injuries this season, and there have been plenty of them, they have been able to avoid anything catastrophic since Eaton tore his anterior cruciate ligament.

This story will be updated.
