Derek Wolfe Carted Off Field With Ankle Injury

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller clapping with Training Camp fans Saturday morning

Wolfe's injury comes less than 48 hours after defensive end Billy Winn suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Bears.

Broncos fans can let out a sigh of relief after Wolfe was carted off the field Saturday morning with what was thought to be a "serious injury".

Wolfe appeared unable to put any pressure on his right leg as he was helped by trainers from the cart into the team's facility.

Wolfe said that he "dodged a bullet", and then posted a photo of his swollen ankle to Twitter.

With depth NT Kyle Peko still recovering from a broken foot, the interior of the line was already a man short.

Helicopter reportedly crashes in woods in Albemarle County
Senior law enforcement official confirms that Virginia State Police troopers were killed in the helicopter crash this afternoon. Police said that no one on the ground was hurt or injured as a result of the crash.

Wolfe was in a pile during a running play in a team drill early in practice - tackle Menelik Watson limped, flexing his own right leg following the play - and stayed down. Safety T.J. Ward has missed the last week with a hamstring injury.

In each of the past two seasons, Wolfe has notched 5.5 sacks. On the edges, Shaquil Barrett (hip) and Shane Ray (wrist) are both out through the preseason and possibly longer.

"It's an ankle injury, we're not sure how bad", Vance Joseph said immediately following practice.

Free-agent addition Zach Kerr and second-year defensive lineman Adam Gotsis will figure to get more work with the first-team for however long Wolfe is on the shelf.

Jared Crick is a returning starter at the other defensive end position.
