Drunk American tourist beaten up after giving Nazi salute, police say

Nazi Salutes Land Chinese Tourists in Hot Water in Germany

A drunken tourist from the United States was beaten up by a passer-by in Dresden, eastern Germany, the local media said Sunday.

A 41-year-old American was punched and injured by a passerby on Saturday in downtown Dresden, Germany, after repeatedly giving the Nazi salute.

The American citizen - whose identity is now being withheld - is being investigated for violating German law that strictly forbids the use of Nazi symbols.

The police have launched a procedure for the use of "symbols of unconstitutional organizations" by the tourist.

French leader urges calm in North Korea crisis
Several Twitter users have over the last 24 hours reported Trump's tweet, which threatened violence against North Korea. He made comments Saturday while visiting his father's tomb in his ancestral hometown of Nagato in western Japan.

According to police records, the American tourist was extremely intoxicated, as indicated by a high blood alcohol level.

Police report that his "assailant" fled the scene, and is being sought on charges, but I do hope they don't look too hard. He is wanted for questioning by Dresden police.

The Nazi salute, along with other symbols of Nazism such as the swastika, are banned in Germany in most contexts. A week earlier, two tourists were arrested for taking photos of themselves in front of Berlin's Reichstag building while making the gesture. They were released after each posted bail of 500 euros, or almost $600.

But as one British paper pointed out, those who know the history of the Nazi salute should know not to do it.
