Fired Google engineer continues blitz against company

James Damore

Organizers pointed to Google's sacking of software engineer James Damore for a controversial anti-diversity memo as the spark that ignited the protest march.

Clearly Megan McArdle has a shallow understanding of the tech industry if she feels that all roles work with "inanimate objects" as she noted her in column "That Google memo about women in tech wasn't wrong".

Jordan Bernt Peterson, a Canadian clinical psychologist, and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto posted on his Twitter page a lengthy interview with James Damore, putting everything the fired employee said in context. The document slammed Google's "politically correct monoculture" and advanced gender stereotypes about women in the workplace.

"For many, including myself, working at Google is a major part of their identity, nearly like a cult with its own leaders and saints, all believed to righteously uphold the sacred motto of 'Don't be evil, ' he wrote".

His memo has ignited a fierce debate about the company's culture. My firing neatly confirms that point.

In an op-ed published on Friday in the Wall Street Journal, Damore wrote that he first circulated his lengthy memo to some people at Google about a month ago. "I think what's really inspiring is they did this on their own - basically", Johnson added.

The way Damore expressed his opinions and pushed discriminatory conclusions runs counter to a free idea exchange. Googlers are writing in, concerned about their safety and anxious they may be "outed" publicly for asking a question in the Town Hall.

Echo chambers maintain themselves by creating a shared spirit and keeping discussion confined within certain limits. On the profile image, he sports a T-shirt with the word "Goolag" spelled out mimicking the Google logo.

The second ad showing 'Goolag' is alluding to the Soviet Unions forced-labor camps known as the Gulag. Fired4Truth, widely believed to be Damore's Twitter account, is closing in on 50,000 followers in a matter of days. The newly appointed vice president for Diversity, Integrity and Governance at Google, Danielle Brown, also sent out a memo to staff or "Googlers" on the issue. Employees can search documents for information about different divisions within the company on its internal network. We have allowed Google to build a near-monopoly on its services though acquisitions as well as innovation, and transformed a pioneering and plucky start-up into an organization that could easily partner up with Big Brother if the opportunity arose.

Someone with access to an employee-only version of Google Plus made screenshots of messages written by Google employees pledging to create blacklists of colleagues not supportive of the company's diversity measures.
