Jammu and Kashmir: Two soldiers killed, one terrorist neutralised in Shopian encounter

Gun fight broke out between a group of militants and the security forces in Awneera village of Jammu and Kashmir's southern Shopian district on Saturday evening. Two-three terrorists are suspected to trapped.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Trichal village of southern Pulwama district on Saturday after the security forces arrived there to launch a cordon-and-search operation against the militants reportedly hiding in the village.

On the same day (August 9), the Army confirmed the killing of 5 terrorists in Kashmir's Machil sector.

The gunfight had started last night and government forces including of army's 3 RR, 55 RR and SOG had started searches to find the militant bodies.

The blast occurred near a stadium where celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of Pakistan's independence were under way. The deceased include officials of the security forces and civilians, said the provincial home minister.

The injured soldiers were shifted to army's base hospital in Badami Bagh area of Srinagar city.

However, this morning as the searches were going on, militants again opened fire which was retaliated by the forces, triggering off a fresh gunfight.

They said that during the gunfight, four houses were also damaged.

Unconfirmed reports said two militants had been killed during the gunfight, but there has been no official confirmation of this so far.
