Mariners place Paxton on disabled list

James Paxton has a 2.70 ERA and has established himself a dark horse for the Cy Young

And it all seemed secondary for the Mariners compared to the concern over the health of lefty James Paxton, who left in the seventh inning with a strained pectoral muscle.

The Mariners are now tied for the second American League wild card playoff spot with the Tampa Bay Rays. But he was not sharp in his attempt at No. 8 and could be headed to the disabled list for the second time this season.

"Obviously it's disheartening news, no doubt", Seattle manager Scott Servais said. Hisashi Iwakuma has been out since early May with shoulder troubles, Felix Hernandez is in his second stint on the disabled list and Paxton could be joining him.

The latest injury to Paxton only adds to a season of setbacks among Seattle's starting rotation. I felt pretty good when I woke up this morning so to hear that it's a strain and it's going to be a few weeks was frustrating. "They've all been told that, which is really exciting if you're in Triple-A, knowing that you've got a good chance to come back and impact us this year with important innings in important games". He was the AL pitcher of the month in July and had won seven straight starts heading into Thursday's outing.

Bills trades leaves club loaded for 2018 National Football League draft
We've got a hot one coming in with the latest reactions on the news that broke today. "I'm sure he's hurt", said McCoy. Secondly, Sean McVay is the new head coach and didn't have a weapon like Watkins on the Redskins last season.

Paxton was working his way into the conversation for Cy Young Award consideration. The year has been quite a struggle, with injuries to multiple key contributors and a string of seemingly unbreakable bad luck, but the Mariners have continued to find ways to win games and keep themselves in the playoff hunt.

The red-hot Trout has recorded eight multi-hit performances in his last 12 games and is a torrid 20-for-44 with four homers and 11 RBIs during the stretch.

The Mariners recalled pitcher Andrew Moore to take his place on the roster.

The Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners meet Saturday in Major League Baseball action at Safeco Field. Unfortunately we went through a similar thing in May. He began the season with AA Arkansas where he went 1-2 with a 2.08 ERA in six games before being promoted to Tacoma May 8.
