Marlins' Samson Confirms Sale of Team to Jeter Group

The new Miami Marlins logo is seen over their dugout during an intrasquad spring training baseball game Sunday

In a 2014 interview with Jack Curry of the Yes Network, Jeter called owning a team "the next ultimate goal", and that he wanted to be the guy "that calls the shots".

The Miami Herald first reported that Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria had agreed to sell the team for $1.2 billion on Friday evening, to a group led by investor Bruce Sherman and the former Yankee shortstop.

If reports are correct, "The Captain" is going to get his shot to show off what he learned from "The Boss", who was always a domineering presence in the Yankees organization.

Jeter, 43, will use just $25 million of his own money to buy a stake in the Marlins.

The Marlins are not contending for a playoff spot now, but could be a playoff team next season with the right additions.

OpenAI Bot Triumphant Playing Dota 2
While its actions per minute aren't any better than that of an average flesh-and-bone player, the choices make a huge difference. Footage of those matches can be found on Dota 2 Rapier's YouTube channel.

The person said Jeter will be in charge of baseball operations. The Marlins haven't been to the postseason since 2003, and ranked last in the National League in attendance 11 of the past 12 years.

Others have pointed out that there is a major difference between being good at playing sports and being good at running a sports team, using the example of Michael Jordan and his ownership of the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets. No word on how much Jordan will be putting in the pot, but regardless of how much he contributes, it's safe to say that the Miami will soon be a Jumpman city.

However, it may be too early for Miami fans to celebrate just yet.

Derek Jeter is coming back to Major League Baseball as an owner and it sure sounds like he won't be sitting quietly in the shadows.
