Nationals RF Harper out indefinitely with bone bruise on knee

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Hunter Strickland delivers during the eighth inning of the first baseball game of a split doubleheader against the Washington Nationals Sunday Aug. 13 2017 in Washington

The ballpark fell into stunned silence in the first inning of the Nationals' 3-1 victory when star player Bryce Harper stomped on a wet first base, his cleat slid, his left knee buckled and he went flying as if violently ejected from a moving vehicle.

"We know he hyperextended it when he slipped going across the bag".

The San Francisco Giants lost a rain-soaked contest against the Washington Nationals on Saturday night, but it was the Nationals that took the bigger long-term hit on a rain-soaked evening in the nation's capital.

Bochy also played and managed the San Diego Padres and Baker played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and was the manager of the Giants from 1993 to 2002.

Jason Witten condemns domestic violence, still supports Ezekiel Elliott
I wanted to play last week obviously. "I feel great, just getting out there running, just getting carries and getting warmed up". It would make sense for Rams' starting quarterback Jared Goff to get a few snaps in the team's first preseason game .

OUR PREDICTION: The Giants have dropped six of their last seven games in Washington, are 0-5 in their last five games versus the Nationals, and are 1-6 in their last seven road games versus a team with a winning home record. Harper clutched his left knee in agony as trainers came out to assist.

Despite the horrific accident, Harper did manage to walk around the club house following the game.

Nationals' manager Dusty Baker announced after the game that Harper hyper-extended his knee and will undergo an MRI, according to MLB.com reporter Jamal Collier. In an effort to avoid contact with Giants first baseman Ryder Jones, Harper slipped on the base.

Stratton was reinstated from the disabled list and notched his second straight no-decision while making his second career major league start on Saturday against Arizona. He threw a lot of pitches. Fellow outfielder Michael Taylor (right oblique strain) was activated from the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding move and will assume Harper's spot on the active roster for the time being. With the rainout on Friday and the Giants not returning to Washington D.C.in 2017, Saturday's game was a must for the two teams.
