Summer getaway sends Heathrow soaring to best month in history

London Heathrow Airport handled 7.53 million passengers in July, a rise of +1.2% compared to previous year and a new record high for any month at the airport.

The UK's biggest and busiest airport said it welcomed 7.53 million passengers in July, up 1.2% compared with the same time past year, and breaking all monthly records.

American Airlines boosted cargo volumes by a huge 44% driving growth in trade with North America (+16%) while East Asia saw a 14% uplift on the back of strong growth to China, Hong Kong and Singapore. United Kingdom traffic rose by nearly +5% on the back of recently launched Flybe flights to Scotland.

Trade through Heathrow also climbed at the fastest rate ever recorded at the UK's largest port - up 15 per cent to 143,000 tonnes in July.

"Britain's global gateway is hard at work this summer holiday season - July was the best month in Heathrow's history".

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has published a report that assesses the top 30 UK airports on the quality of assistance they provide to passengers with a disability.

While Ozil and Ramsey missed the Community Shield, Mertesacker was taken off injured after sustaining a head injury. He's not going to come back and hurt you.

The CAA in its second disability report said 3 million passengers with disabilities asked for extra help at airports in 2016, a rise of 300,000 compared with 2015.

Manchester, East Midlands and Exeter were the other airports where attention to accessibility was found to be lacking.

Our surveys, along with the airports' own studies, have shown high levels of satisfaction among disabled passengers and we have seen some examples of excellent service where assistance is well organised and delays are minimal.

Six airports, including Glasgow and Prestwick, also in Scotland, were given "very good" ratings.

The airport said Middle Eastern destinations in particular were popular for travellers, as fuller aircraft led to a seven per cent rise in passengers to the area, while United Kingdom destinations also posted five per cent passenger growth after Flybe launched flights from Heathrow to Scotland earlier this year.

Airport operator HIAL previously said that last year's rank was down to it failing to properly publicise its work in improving accessibility. "Unfortunately, substantive issues still exist with the quality of the assistance service provided at Heathrow", said the report.
