3 dead, 35 injured after 'Unite the Right' rally sparks violence in Charlottesville

The alleged driver of the auto that plowed into a group of counterprotesters in Charlottesville has been booked on suspicion of second-degree murder.

The suspect in a deadly crash near a rally of white nationalists in Charlottesville, Virginia, has been identified as James Alex Fields Jr., of Maumee, Ohio, CNN reports.

Police are investigating a fatal auto crash that took place this afternoon at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville as a homicide and have charged a suspect with second-degree murder in the killing.

Virginia state police also said one of their agency's helicopters crashed Saturday outside Charlottesville, killing two troopers. Kumer says he doesn't believe Fields has obtained an attorney yet. Her identity has not been released to the public yet because her next of kin have not yet been notified.
