West Brom fans react on Twitter to Jay Rodriguez's performance

The Welshman's previous deal at The Hawthorns was set to expire next summer

Tony Pulis hopes he can take West Brom to the next level after signing a contract to remain as head coach until 2019.

It comes after the Welshman guided the Baggies to a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

Pulis says he is "delighted" to commit to the club following talks with chairman John Williams.

There was a sense of inevitability about West Brom's strike - having scored 49% of their goals last season from set-pieces, they continued that run with the aid of some poor Bournemouth defending. "I think the supporters and everybody around the football club wants to see that", he said, in quotes reported by BBC Sport.

"I've said all along that we are in a building phase which requires a step by step process".

Tony Pulis underlined his desire to bring further fresh faces to The Hawthorns despite West Brom's opening 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Slater: Manchester duo poised to challenge Chelsea for title
Mourinho goes into his second season at Old Trafford needing significant improvement in the Premier League after United finished sixth in May.

"We can never underestimate just how important it is to keep our place in a league that is now the most famous and the most followed in the world".

"Neither can we underestimate how hard that is".

Rodriguez was preferred to Salomon Rondon in attack for the hosts and he nearly marked his bow with a goal in the ninth minute, Asmir Begovic saving smartly from the striker's snap-shot.

"To start well was very important for us".

Pulis said: "We want everyone to chip in and the quality we got from set plays today was absolutely fantastic".

Bournemouth ended the match with two-thirds of the possession but only that one shot on target - a hint of the work that manager Eddie Howe has in front of him this season. I thought we were ready.
