Four arrested in Mumbai over Game of Thrones episode leak

Four people accused of leaking an episode of HBO's "The Game of Thrones" were arrested Monday in India.

Episode four of the seventh season was leaked on 4 August, just a few days before it was due to telecast globally.

With Game of Thrones being one of the most pirated TV shows in the world, it is easy and tempting to see why hackers and leaksters want to get their hands on the show before everyone else.

Deputy commissioner of police (cyber) Akhbar Pathan said, "We have arrested the four accused".

The four individuals were arrested on 14 August, and after appearing before magistrates, have been placed in police custody for until 21 August 2017.

The company, based in Mumbai, offers "a range of technical, creative and media processing services on the cloud to manage multi-platform content operations", according to its website. After the leak, the company filed a complaint and during the internal investigation it was revealed that the episode was accessed using the Id of one of the employees Abhishekh Ghadiyal.

It is not the first time Game of Thrones would suffer such fate.

Following the leak, a Star India spokesperson said, "We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner's end to swiftly determine the cause".

Star India now owns the rights to air and stream various HBO titles, including Game of Thrones. The show produced by HBO has seen several leaks over the years.

HBO learned on Sunday more episodes of some of its prime shows had been leaked online, including unaired episodes of Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm.
