Pakistani club cricketer Zubair Ahmed dies after being struck by bouncer

The news was shared by Pakistan Cricket Board's official Twitter account

Cricket has been rocked by the death of young Pakistani batsman Zubair Ahmed after he was hit on the head by a bouncer.

The Pakistan Cricket Board shared the tragic news on their official Twitter site, information sure to affect sports fans all over the world. "Our sympathies with Zubair's family".

Zubair, playing for his club, clearly had no enforcement from the organisers and the officials about the need for wearing the helmet.

According to reports, Ahmed had played four matches for the List A and Twenty20 Quetta Bears in Pakistan.

The incident happened on August 14, Pakistan's Independence Day.

A focus on player safety has been heightened ever since the tragic death of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes less than three years ago.

Former Australian Test opener Phil Hughes had died after being hit on the neck during a Sheffield Shield match in November, 2014.
