Rahul Gandhi inaugurates subsidised 'Indira Canteens', food available at Rs. 5, 10

Rahul Gandhi will inaugurate one unit of the canteen named after his grand mother Indira Gandhi

Congratulating the Siddaramaiah government for this venture, Gandhi said that "I came to understand that the State Government proposes to open "Indira Canteen" in all the cities and aims to see that nobody will suffer from hungry".

Taking pride over the Congress government conceptualising such a canteen, Gandhi said the intention was that the quality of food and cleanliness in it be the same as the most expensive restaurants in Bengaluru.

Indira Canteens are the food serving areas where meals are available at a very low price to ensure even the weakest and poor section do not sleep hungry.

Dilip Kumar's "Mooh Bola Beta", SRK Pays Him A Visit
SRK, who is very fond of the legendary actor, had earlier told PTI, "Even words like "icon" are very less for him". Bollywood king Khan visited veteran actor Dilip Kumar and showered his love and affection for the iconic actor.

Calling the world an "unfair place", the Congress vice president, who also had a lunch at the canteen, said it is targeted at the working class like construction workers and auto rickshaw drivers. Each canteen is targetted to serve around 500 people per day and the number might increase depending upon the demand, according to city Corporation authorities.

He also made other errors in his short speech including using the word "campaign" instead of "canteen" and got trolled on micro-blogging site. He later corrected himself and termed it the Indira Canteen.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced this ambitious project when he presented this year's budget in state Assembly on March 15, 2017. Launching of Amma Canteens in Tamil Nadu was the idea of state's former CM and former AIADMK head J Jayalalithaa. "Programmes for the poor must be done in a hurry", Siddaramaiah said. T.A. Sharavana, JD (S) member of Karnataka legislative council opened the first such venture, "Namma Devegowda Appaji Canteen", in Bengaluru on 2 August. Karnataka government has borrowed the idea from its neighbouring state Tamil Nadu. Rabhul Gandhi nearly said campaign instead of canteen at least twice in his speech.
