Under Armour founder Kevin Plank resigns from American Manufacturing Council

President Trump's Charlottesville address fails to match the nobility of Lincoln's Gettysburg

Merck CEO Kenneth Frazier announced Monday that he would depart the council that's focused on fostering American manufacturing jobs due to Trump's failure to denounce white supremacists in his initial response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"America's leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy", Frazier said.

Frazier is one of the few African-Americans to head a Fortune 500 company. "Johnson & Johnson has a responsibility to remain engaged, not as a way to support any specific political agenda, but as a way to represent the values of Our Credo as crucial public policy is discussed and developed", he said.

Trump formed the manufacturing council a week after his inauguration as part of a push to create jobs. I am stepping down from the council to focus on inspiring & uniting through power of sport.

After Trump announced in June that the USA would be leaving the Paris climate accord, both Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Disney CEO Bob Iger left his business advisory council.

Shortly after Frazier's announcement, Trump personally attacked the CEO for stepping down.

Discarded satellite images show objects inside new MH370 seach zone
Malaysian Airline 370 departed from Kuala Lumpur in the early morning of March 8th, heading towards Beijing on a routine journey. He said that while the latest report was encouraging, the object had "not been definitely identified" from MH370.

More than a year later - after it took Trump two days to condemn hate groups in the wake of the death of Heather Heyer, an anti-white supremacist protester, during Saturday's rally - Krzanich wrote in his blog post: "I have already made clear my abhorrence at the recent hate-spawned violence in Charlottesville, and earlier today I called on all leaders to condemn the white supremacists and their ilk who marched and committed violence". It wasn't until Monday afternoon that he bluntly called "KKK, neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, and other hate groups. repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans".

Within minutes, Trump attacked him on Twitter, saying Frazier's resignation will give him "more time to LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!" "I've been lecturing them, including the gentleman that you're referring to, about you have to bring it back to this country", he said. But it added that chairman Jeff Immelt would stay on the council because it was important for GE to "participate in the discussion on how to drive growth and productivity in the U.S".

"Some of the folks that will leave, they're leaving out of embarrassment because they make their products outside" the USA, he said.

Representatives for at least five other companies - Dow Chemical, Whirlpool, Campbell Soup, International Paper and Nucor - voiced similar sentiments.

Trump's council now consists of 24 members.

They all released statements that condemned racism or welcomed tolerance.
